Amber Guardians, Books 1-10

My Year 5 student loves the Amber Guardians series. He is gripped by the exciting story and thoroughly enjoys looking at the sophisticated illustrations – he notices details I hadn’t spotted myself. We take turns to read a paragraph of the story at a time, to keep the flow going and so that I can model reading with expression. We read each chapter twice, over two sessions, to encourage fluency. We spend time talking about the meaning of words, as the vocabulary is very rich. We use the photocopiable worksheets as well and these provide plenty of practice of morphemes in words, both on their own and in context. My student particularly enjoys playing the board games, and also making a card at the end of a session to add to his collection of morphemes.
